AJAX Development

You might be wondering what AJAX is? AJAX stands for  Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. Occasionally people ask me what AJAX is and why an AJAX solution is desirable. To answer that question, we need to go back to the pre-AJAX days.

Pre-AJAX: Web Pages Lacked Life

When we first started developing web solutions in the 1990's, the one thing that bothered me was how dead web pages were. You had to refresh the page each time you wanted to see the changes you've made, and the entire experience was stale in my opinion. The applications we were accustomed to building had robust user interfaces, and they were alive. It was really a major step backwards.

Enter AJAX

Instead of constantly refreshing static pages, AJAX asynchronously retrieved data from the server. This trick makes web pages come alive. No longer are the dead, static pages you need to refresh. It really was a huge leap forward in functionality. In fact, the way we design our web user interfaces completely changed when AJAX entered the picture.

AJAX Isn't Really a Technology

AJAX in itself isn't really one technology. You can't really download AJAX, in the way you'd download PHP, or MySQL. It's a group of technologies we already use. Ajax uses a combination of HTML and CSS for marking up and styling information, and JavaScript (but not always) to exchange data asynchronously between your browser and server.

Our AJAX Expertise

We've built many web applications that incorporate AJAX. In fact, it's a rare day when we don't build AJAX into a web project.
